The SciFinder Database: Searching for a Chemical Substance Name

SEARCHING FOR A CHEMICAL SUBSTANCE NAME

At any time, you can click on the SciFinder logo in the upper left hand corner to begin a new search.

In the Explore menu, click Substances - Substance Identifier.  Enter and run a search.  Some sample searches appear below the search box.

In the search result example below, 50-00-0 is the Chemical Abstracts Society (CAS) registry number.  The chemical structure is diagrammed in the large box, the chemical formula is given (CH2 O), and the official index name, formaldehyde.  Click on the CAS number to see additional information or on any of the links to Key Physical Properties.
