CHEM 5800: SciFinder-n Literature Search

Created especially for CHEM 5800, this Library Guide addresses conducting literature searches in two chemistry databases and more.

In the SciFinder-n database, the search for scholarly journal articles, the literature search, is called the references search.

Written and illustrated instructions are followed by a video tutorial.

THE REFERENCES SEARCH

Sample search: Enter nanoparticles for drug delivery to cancer tumors in the References search box and click the search button. More than 49,000 results are retrieved. To begin narrowing your search results, on the left hand side of the screen, under Document Type, click the Journals box.

All types of documents are included in the References search. This step will limit your search results to scholarly journal articles.

Next, under Language, click the English box.

Under Publication Year, choose the last five years by entering 2018, 2023, and clicking the Apply button.

Search results appear in order of relevance to the search terms you entered. Choose articles from the top of the list or continue to use options on the left hand side of the screen to narrow your search results further. For example, under Search Within Results, you could enter the keywords: pancreatic cancer women then click the Search button to add more keywords to your original search.

TO FIND FULL TEXT

Once you've narrowed your search and found reference you like, click the Full Text button in the bottom left corner of a References box, then in the pop up menu, click Search for Full Text from Pfau Library.
