Storage and Add-ons

Did you say U.S. storage?

We did. OSF file storage allows you to choose between servers in the US, Canada, Europe, and Australia.

All services related to file storage are localized, so, for example, rendering a document in your browser using OSF does so without your data leaving the US. Everything else about your project resides on the other country's servers, though. This includes your wikis, chats, descriptions, titles, tags, etc.

To make US-based storage your default in newly created projects:

  1. Go to your account settings
  2. Select Account Settings
  3. And set your storage location

I have an existing project on US storage. Can I migrate it to other servers?

Yes and no. While it is not possible to migrate a project per se, it is possible to fork a project. When you fork a project, you make a copy of it. When you make that copy, you get to select which OSF storage servers you'd like to use.

Assuming you are creating a fork for a project for which you have administrative access over all components and all add-ons, all data and all versioned documents will be migrated. The project creation date, however, will reset to the forking date.

Learn more about forking here.

Can I connect my CSUSB OneDrive to OSF?

No. This is currently (as of 2020) not an option. We are investigating solutions.

How do I add other connections to my OSF project?

There are instructions on how to do this Add Ons and API Homepage

OSF Institutions

What is OSF Institutions?

OSF Institutions is an institutional portal into OSF; it brings together all public research affiliated with CSUSB in one landing page. You can access the UBC Institutions page at osf.io/institutions/csusb

How do I connect my OSF account with CSUSB?

To associate your OSF account with CSUSB, you will need to log in using the 'Sign in through institution' option on the login page. You only need to do this once. For subsequent logins, you can opt to use your OSF account credentials or your institutional credentials.

How do I affiliate my projects with CSUSB?

Projects that you created before associating your account with CSUSB will need to be manually affiliated with CSUSB. To do this, open a project, head into the settings for that project, scroll to the options for 'Project Affiliation / Branding', and add the project to CSUSB.

Projects created after associating your account with CSUSB will, by default, be affiliated with CSUSB. You can opt out of this affiliation at the time of project creation. You can also opt out of affiliation at any point in the future through the project's settings under 'Project Affiliation / Branding'.

Only public projects will be displayed through the institutional portal. Private projects will remain visible only to project contributors.

If I log in to OSF with my CSUSB account, what information is shared with OSF?

The following attributes associated with your CSUSB account will be shared at login with OSF:

  • displayName (your name, which can be edited at myAccount.)
  • email address (the email address you have registered with CSUSB.
  • CSUSB persistent identifier (a unique ID assigned to your CSUSB ID)
  • CSUSB name (your CSUSB username, which can be edited at myAccount)
