Google it. If your topic is a phrase, put quotes around it (this tells Google to look for those words all together in that order). You can add other words too, but since you need an article from the previous 12 months, definitely add 2017, like this:

To find a popular article on your topic, start with a database search.

Here are links to a few library databases in which you can find popular articles. You only need to use one of them! The blurbs beneath the links tell you how to type in your search.

Type your keywords into the search box. On the same page under "Published Date" ignore the months but add 2017 and 2017 as years. Press Search. Once you get a list of results, look at the left side of the screen and under "Source Types," choose "Magazines" or "Newspapers."

Type your keywords into the search box and go. Once you get a list of results, look at the right side of the screen and under "Narrow Results By," choose "Source Type--Newspapers." Finally, at the bottom of that margin, look for the phrase "Enter a specific date range." Type in 2017 and 2017, and press Update.
