NSCI 300: Science and Technology (Prof. Becky Talyn): Find an Article from a Scholarly Journal in Another Discipline

Different Disciplines Approach Issues Differently

Scholars in different disciplines approach the same problem from different perspectives.

Say you’re researching artificial intelligence.

If you search for articles in a scientific database, you’ll find articles that are written from a scientific perspective. The articles will probably look at how artificial intelligence impacts medicine or the environment or similar.

If you look for articles in an economics database, you’ll likely find articles about the use of artificial intelligence in banking or market strategy.

If you look for articles in a legal database, your results will be about the legal ramifications of artificial intelligence.

This means that you need to decide--before you start your research--which disciplinary perspective you want to explore. Then you can choose a specialized database to investigate the problem from that disciplinary perspective.
