Ancient History Research: Find Books Both Online and Print

This guide is designed to assist students in their research of ancient history. It covers finding resources available from the Pfau Library, including, encyclopedias, articles, books, primary resources, images, and videos.

Doesn't matter what type of book?  Then after you run a search, all you need to click is Books under Resource Type and APPLY FILTERS.  Textbooks may be print books or ebooks.

ONLY PRINT BOOKS & TEXTBOOKS

 

- TO FIND ONLY PRINT BOOKS AT CSUSB LIBRARIES -

1. Enter and run a search (keyword, author, title).

The main OneSearch search box.  Your search here.

2. When you get your search results, use the filters on the left side of the screen (Refine my results) like this:

  • Availability - Available in the Library
  • Resource Type - Books
  • Click APPLY FILTERS

- HINT -

Doing more than one search for print books?  Do this:

  • Click Keep filters active while I search.

Active filters: Books, Available in the Library.  Keep filters active while I search.  Reset filters.

 

- EXAMPLE OF A PRINT BOOK IN ONESEARCH -

The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd with Available at Pfau Library 4th floor (PS3611.I44 S38 2003).

GETTING THE BOOK FROM THE SHELF

- TO GO GET THE BOOK YOURSELF -

1.  You will need the floor location and the call number.  A call number functions as a "home address" for one book.

A print book: Tiger moon, tracking the great cats of Nepal with a new afterword.  Floor location and call number: 5th floor, QL 737 .C23 S86 2002.

2.  If you click on the title of the book, or the call number then on the next screen you can click on View Floor Map to see which section of the floor matches the first letter of the call number.  In this example, it is "Q".

3.  When you are at the right section of the floor, follow the call number letters alphabetically and the numbers numerically to arrive at the location for the book you chose.

4.  Bring the book to the Service Desk on the 1st floor.  Show your student ID to check out the book.

 

- TO REQUEST A BOOK FOR PICKUP -

1.  You will need to sign in with your normal campus login.  Click on the title of the book, or the call number then on the next screen, click Please sign in to see request options and place requests.

2.  After you sign in, you have a choice of picking the book up from the library Service Desk (open hours only) or a locker (anytime).  Both of these options are available at the San Bernardino and Palm Desert campuses.  You will get an email when your book is ready to pick up.

ONLY EBOOKS & TEXTBOOKS

 

- TO FIND ONLY EBOOKS FROM THE CSUSB LIBRARIES -

1. Enter and run a search (keyword, author, title).

The main OneSearch search box.  Your search here.

2. When you get your search results, use the filters on the left side of the screen (Refine my results) like this:

  • Availability - Available Online
  • Resource Type - Books
  • Click APPLY FILTERS

NOTE: Due to contractural agreements with the ebook providers, you are only able to find and use CSUSB ebooks.
