- NARROWING A SEARCH WITH ADDITIONAL FILTERS -
Both types of searches, Basic and Advanced, can be narrowed even further by using additional filters along with the ones already mentioned in this guide.
- THE ALL FILTERS BUTTON -
This button appears underneath the search box but only after you run a search. The number in parentheses, here it is 3, is the number of currently active filters for your search.
Click the All Filters button and a tall, scrollable window will appear on the right side of the screen. At the top are all of the currently active filters. Each one has an X to click on if you want to remove it.
As you scroll down, you will see many other filters to choose from. Usually, the most useful ones for students are Subject, Gender, Age, and Geography.
HINT
When you do several searches, one after another, CINAHL will remember the filters you set for the first search. Sometimes this is exactly what you want, but sometimes you will need to click on All Filters and delete a filter.
- TRY THIS BASIC SEARCH -
long covid symptoms nursing intervention
BEGINNING FILTERS: Peer Reviewed, 5 Years
Run the search.
NEXT FILTER: Source Type - Academic Journals
AFTER THAT: Click the All Filters button, scroll down to Gender, and click Female. Here, the number in parentheses, 83, tells you how many articles will be in your search results if you add this filter to your search. Click the Apply button.
Now the search results will be focused on nursing interventions for female patients with long Covid symptoms. This is still a rather long list at 83 items so you can go back to the All Filters window and use either Age (maybe Adult 19 - 44 years) or Geography (USA) to further narrow the search.
NOTE: You may have to click the Update Selections button before you click the Apply button.
