Voting 2020: Register to vote

Electeds responsibilities, registering to vote, researching voting options

Register to vote if:

  • You have not registered before and you are qualified to register.
  • Your name or address or the party you want listed as your political party has changed. Then you need to update your information by registering to vote again. The registrar makes the changes and notifies the registrar for your prior address that you are no longer there . (You cannot vote in both places - you only get one vote!)

You can register to vote at California's Online Voter Registration site.

If you need to register to vote in another state (or if the California site is down) try the first link (top left) at Rock The Vote.

Qualifications to register:

To register to vote in California you must:

  • be a United States citizen
  • be a resident of California
  • be at least 18 years old or older on Election Day
  • not be currently in state or federal prison or on parole for the conviction of a felony
  • not be currently found to be mentally incompetent to vote by a court
