Latino Baseball History Project: Results and impact

Information on the Latino Baseball History Project

Results and Impact

  • The Latino Baseball History Project has resulted in a valuable collection of oral histories, images, and artifacts.  These are housed in the Special Collections Department of the Pfau Library at CSUSB.
  • The 18+ books have helped to document Mexican American baseball and community history in California and several other states.
  • These books have also helped to instill pride among Chicano youth.
  • Our book series is housed at the Research Library at the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York.
  • An important aspect of this project is that we highlight softball and baseball photos and stories to tell a larger narrative of family and community history, as told by community members.
  • It is said that the LBHP inspired the Smithsonian to launch its own collecting and traveling exhibit project.

The future of LBHP

  • The future of the LBHP seems bright, especially as we begin to develop new partnerships, such as the ones with the Smithsonian and the Dodgers Organization.
