Things to consider: user limits

If an ebook will be required reading for your course, make note of how many users can access the book at the same time. Many of our ebooks have no limits on the number of people who can use the book at the same time, but others are limited, usually from 1 to 3 users. Any user limits will appear near the link to the full text, as shown below:

If a book is licensed for a single user, the library may be able to purchase additional access upon request. For further information, contact Stacy Magedanz.

Link to an Ebook: General

Display the full record for the ebook you want.

  • Go to the "Send To" section (at the top of the full record page).
  • Click the Permalink icon.

  • Copy the URL provided and paste it into your Web page.
  • You do not need to add anything!

Link to a chapter in Ebook Central ebooks

For Ebook Central:

  1. Display the section of the book you wish to link to.
  2. Click the "Share Link" icon on the Ebook Central toolbar.

  3. Copy the URL provided in Share Link
  4. Paste the URL into your Web page.
  5. You do not need to add the proxy prefix to the URL; Ebook Central uses a different method to recognize CSUSB users.

Link to a chapter in EBSCOhost Ebooks

For EBSCOhost Ebooks 

DO NOT copy the URL in the "Address" or "Location" box on your browser! That URL is not stable and will expire after a short period. Use only the "Permalink" for EBSCOhost content.

  1. Display any section of the book you want to link to
  2. At the right edge of the screen, click on the icon labeled "Permalink."
  3. Permalink icon highlighted on list
  4. A Permalink box will appear. Copy the URL given in this box and paste it into your Web page. This URL will already include the library's proxy prefix.

Link to a chapter in JSTOR ebooks

For JSTOR ebooks:

  1. From the table of contents, click "Read Online" for the section you want to link to.
  2. Copy the Stable URL displayed next to the text.

  3. The stable URL may display in one of two ways. If you are on campus or connected to the CSUSB VPN, it will display as show above, without any of the library's proxy information. In that case, you will need to add the proxy when you paste it into your course page:
    http://libproxy.lib.csusb.edu/login?url=https://www.jstor.org/stable/j.ctv120qrn6.12
  4. If you are off campus and not connected to the VPN, the Stable URL will already include the library's proxy information, as shown below:

    You can copy-paste this Stable URL as is, because it already includes the library's proxy information:

Link to a chapter in O'Reilly (formerly Safari) ebooks

For O'Reilly Books:

  1. Display the book, book section, or video you wish to link to.
  2. Copy the URL that appears in the "Location" or "Address" box on your Web browser.
  3. Replace the string "https://learning.oreilly.com" with the string "https://go.oreilly.com/CSU-SanBernardino" 
  4. Do not add the proxy prefix! The change in the URL is telling O'Reilly who we are.

Example: 

You want to direct your students to chapter 6 of the O'Reilly book Leadership Matters. This URL displays in your browser:

https://learning.oreilly.com/library/view/leadership-matters/9781351263627/xhtml/Ch06.xhtml 

To use the link in your course web pages, change the first part of the URL:

https://go.oreilly.com/CSU-SanBernardino/library/view/leadership-matters/9781351263627/xhtml/Ch06.xhtml
